Headshot Booth
Getting ready for your 2-minute headshot
Photography Style
These headshots will photograph your upper torso, shoulders and face. Nothing below the upper chest will be visible in camera.
We will take photos facing forward, and with a slight turn to the left and the right to capture different angles.
Posing Technique
Posture is key to getting a great, natural looking headshot.
We recommend standing straight up, with your shoulders back and your weight in your heels. If you lean forward, your shoulders will appear wider in the final image.
We will ask you to push your nose toward the camera and lower your chin. It sounds crazy, but it looks good. It elongates and hides the upper neck and makes the eyes appear larger.
To smile or not to smile, that is the question… Actually, we recommend a closed mouth small smile. Big, open smiles have a tendency to close the eyes, one of your best features. Small smiles keep the eyes open and look approachable and friendly.
Small, closed-mouth smiles keep the eyes large and convey warmth and approachability.
Clothing Recommendations
We recommend wearing clothing that is comfortable and that makes you feel confident.
Solid colors are preferable to patterns. Busy patterns might be distracting.
Sleeves are generally preferable to sleeveless. We recommend avoiding clothing that elongates the shoulders, like a cap sleeve or a puff sleeve.
Layering your clothing is a great way to create dimension in your headshot.
Jewelry
Less is more!
Earrings should be minimal, studs or small earrings are best.
Necklaces should be minimal and short, if included. We frame headshots just below the bottom of the shoulder (collarbone), so long necklaces will fall out of the frame.
Makeup
Less is more! (See a trend?)
A “natural” look is optimal rather than glamorous or trendy.
